The AIB Photojournalism Exhibition, showcasing the award-winning and highly commended images from the prestigious annual awards of the Press Photographers’ Association of Ireland, continues its countrywide tour with its visit to AIB Bank, Castlebar until August 23rd.
AIB Photojournalist of the Year 2013, Irish Independent’s Mark Condren attended the Castlebar Exhibition launch with Mayo GAA stars, Aidan O Shea, Declan Varley, Michael Conroy.
Also, there to view the very best of Irish Press Photography in 2012 were Castlebar’s Deputy Town Council Mayor, Ger Deere; Mayo Co.Manager Peter Hynes; and CEO of Mayo County Enterprise, Board, Joanne Grehan.
Castlebar AIB Branch Manager, Michael Hutton, and his staff, enthusiastically welcomed guests to the opening and invited the general public to come to the branch and view the very best images of Ireland 2012 from Ireland’s best press photographers. A visual treat not to be missed!
PPAI Mayo freelance photographer, Henry Wills, also features in this year’s exhibition with his images – “CLOSING DOWN YEARS OF COMMUNITY SERVICE”, in the daily life & people category and “REBUILDING FIANNA FAIL – FROM THE GRASSROOTS UP” in the reportage category.
The AIB Photojournalism Awards, are open to members of the Press Photographer’s Association of Ireland and celebrate and reward excellence in Irish
Photojournalism. Over 2,000 images were entered in this year’s competition, by 120 photojournalists from all over Ireland, across nine categories – news, daily life, sports action, sports portfolio, portrait, environment, politics, arts & entertainment, and reportage, capturing a moment in history.
The awards are judged by internationally renowned photojournalists. Chairperson of the judging panel this year was Dermot O’Shea (former picture editor of The Irish Times) who was joined by international guest judges Eddie Mulholland (The Telegraph Group) and Philip Coburn (The Sunday Mirror).
The AIB Photojournalism Exhibition, featuring 125 prints, is currently on tour visiting selected AIB branches and other venues throughout Ireland during the year. Masterclasses for schools, camera clubs, and photography students will also be held in locations throughout the country over the coming months.
