Over 150 athletes, ranging from the experienced to the first time novice, are expected to compete in the Castlebar Sprint Distance Triathlon 2013, taking place on April 21st. The event is organised by Liquid Motion Triathlon Club in Ballina and G.M.I.T. Castlebar.
Already some of the West’s leading triathletes have signed up to take part in the event including last year’s winners Ruairí Geraghty (Galway Triathlon Club) and Rachael Glendon (Wicklow Triathlon Club).
“We are delighted to invite the Liquid Motion Triathlon Club to G.M.I.T. Castlebar for this the second hosting of the event. We are sure it will prove to be a very successful and exciting day for all involved”, said Nigel Jennings, Sports Officer with the college.
The race itself will consist of a 750m swim (30 lenghts) which is taking place at Castlebar Swimmimg Pool, a 20km cycle through the surrounding countryside and then back into Castlebar for the 5km run.
For those new to the multi-disciplinary world of triathlon, a sprint distance race such as this offers a fantastic way to dip your toe, so whether you are an experienced triathlete looking for a personal best or you’re taking on your very first challenge, this event will provide the perfect setting for it.
Online entry to the Castlebar Sprint Distance Triathlon is open via www.triathlonireland.com Cost of entry is €35 single and €70 for relay teams.
Liquid Motion is Mayo’s original triathlon club dedicated to the 3 sports of swimming, cycling and running and was founded in 2006 with the aim to promote triathlon, introduce local people to the sport and to promote a healthy lifestyle.
