Ballina Town Council honoured the 15th Anniversary of its twinning with Pittsfield, USA with a civic reception for Pittsfield Mayor, Daniel L. Bianchi, and the city’s visiting delegation to the town.
The strong ties between Ballina and the American city have been fostered over the years with the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Pittsfield a particular occasion when representatives of both communities come together to celebrate cultural and ancestral links.
The civic reception was hosted by Ballina Mayor, Cllr Johnny O’Malley.
The event was part of the The Gathering celebrations in North Mayo that saw community events taking place in towns and villages.
The high-point of The Gathering Celebrations in Co Mayo will come later in August with In Humbert’s Footsteps – an historical re-enactment of the 1798 invasion of Ireland by French forces under the command of General Humbert.
