Ballyhaunis singer, Olwyn Murray (20) has just released her first single, ‘Falling in Love Again’ – and the song is to download from iTunes and is also in the Irish music charts.
Performing since the age of 8, Olwyn received vocal lessons with Lavinia Gilmartin in Ballina. She was one of the finalists in the All-Ireland Talent Show in 2010 and has made many TV and radio appearances.
At the age of 10, Olwyn was a member of, ‘Spirit’, a group of 7 girls from Ballina who performed throughout Mayo. Olwyn also took part in many Ballyhaunis Community School musicals.
In 2008 and 2009, Olwyn went to Hollywood to perform in the ‘World Championship of Performing Arts’ and won a total of 5 gold medals and a one silver medal in different categories. Her performances also attracted the attention of a number of record labels.
In September 2010, Olwyn moved to the UK to study music at The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA). Olwyn was selected as one of 60 out of thousands of applicants for this course.
On hit single
Working on her songwriting and music skills, Olwyn was soon writing her own songs and performing around Liverpool with an acoustic band.
She has recorded many tracks, collaborated with other songwriters and is co-writing new material with other performers.
In December 2012, Olwyn was a part of the Hillsborough Christmas Number 1, ‘He Ain’t Heavy He’s My Brother’, performing in the choir on the track, which included artists such as Paul McCartney and Robbie Williams.
Olwyn is now doing a few mini gigs throughout Ireland to promote the single. She is also recording a music video to go along with the song.
