The award-winning In Humbert Footsteps re-enactment of the French involvement in the 1798 Rebellion in Co Mayo will be staged on the streets of Ballina from June 25th-29th.
The event, which is sure to be a big tourist attraction, is being organised by Ballina Chamber of Commerce.
The 1798 Rebellion re-enactments in Kilcummin, Killala, Lahardane and Castlebar were staged in August 2013 and recently won the national winner of Ireland’s Best Gathering Event 2013.
The re-enactment sees the French army under General Humbert take on the English Redcoats with the smoke of roaring cannons, the cracking of muskets and the clashing of pikes and swords making it an exciting spectacle for all the family
Said a spokesperson for the Ballina Chamber of Commerce: “We are looking forward to having all our friends from Lord Edward’s Own, Le Garde Chauvin, 45eme Regiment d’Infanterie de Ligne, 70e Demi-Brigade d’Infanterie de Ligne and rebel pikemen and women (along with some new re-enactor regiments), back on the streets of Mayo in June 2014.”
