OxyMem a company that has created breakthrough technology for waste-water aeration, and whose Technical Director is Dr. Eoin Syron, a chemical engineer from Crossmolina, has been shortlisted in The Irish Times InterTradeIreland Innovation Awards.
Up to now the aeration process has relied on ‘forced’, or ‘bubble aeration’ to deliver oxygen to the bacteria that breakdown the wastewater.
Athlone-based OxyMem has been shortlisted in the Energy and The Environment Category for its innovative process that uses a gas permeable membrane to deliver oxygen directly to the microorganisms.
This allows OxyMem to deliver oxygen far more efficiently than conventional technologies. OxyMem is typically four times more energy efficient than best in class solution available today.
The other members of the OxyMem team are Wayne Byrne, Managing Director, and Prof. Eoin Casey, Chairman.
