Taoiseach Enda Kenny TD has announced a €80 million capital investment by Hollister Incorporated in their facility in Ballina, Co. Mayo, that is being welcomed locally as a huge economic boost for the North Mayo capital.
The announcement at Government Buildings was made following a meeting between the Taoiseach and Hollister’s global management team and is a very welcome announcement from one of the main employers in Co. Mayo.
The capital investment will allow for Hollister, which employs 572 workers in the US company’s Ballina plant, to meet an increased market demand for one of their products and the investment will commence in 2014.
Healthcare products worldwide
Hollister Incorporated is an independently owned company that develops, manufactures and markets healthcare products worldwide.
The company manufactures products for ostomy care, continence care, critical care, and wound care, and they develop educational support materials as well. Hollister has been serving healthcare professionals and consumers for over ninety years and is committed to making life more rewarding and dignified for those who use their products and services.
The Taoiseach said: “It is my pleasure to announce that Hollister Inc. will invest a further €80 million at their Ballina facility. I am delighted that this will provide for the expansion of their facilities in Ireland.
“Indeed, Hollister’s decision to invest a further €80 million at their facility in Ballina is a testament to the excellent reputation Ireland has in the global Medical Technologies Industry,” Taoiseach Kenny added.
New product development
Hollister Incorporated is one of the largest employers in Co Mayo and has contributed more than €60 million to the Irish economy in 2013. Their plant in Ballina is located on approximately 40 acres at Rehins on the Dublin Road.
In the past 7 years, significant investments have been made in the Ballina plant, both in infrastructure and equipment.
During that period, a number of additional functions have been added to the original manufacturing process including research and technology development, new product development, corporate project engineering and technical services.
The Ballina operation also coordinates the inventory, distribution, and sales invoicing for Hollister throughout Europe and the EMEA region.
Hollister Ireland was established in Ballina, Co. Mayo in 1976. The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Hollister Incorporated and its Ballina employees are engaged in both new product development and manufacturing.
