It was a gala night in the Castlecourt Hotel, Westport, when Westport Athletic Club hosted the 2012 C and C Cellular/Vodafone Mayo Athletic Awards, honouring, athletes – young and not so young – from all over Mayo for their achievements on track and field, cross country nationally and internationally during the past 12 months. There was a huge turnout of athletes, parents, and friends for what was, as always, an enjoyable occasion.
The awards were preceded by a gala dinner which was attended by over two hundred athletes, families, friends and supporters. Mayo Athletics Co. Board chairperson
Michael Moran welcomed all to the function. He thanked everybody who helped to make this event possible, especially the Sponsors, C&C Cellular and Vodafone, the hosts Westport Athletic Club, Marion Mattimoe for collecting and citations and producing Certificates and Souvenir Booklet, his fellow County Board members, and the members of the various clubs who have assisted in any way.
He stated that he was delighted to see the completion of the new 400m tartan track in Claremorris and the completion of a new indoor facility in Athlone.
