A Mayo gardener has launched a photographic art project to help raise awareness of the beauty of trees and their importance to our world.
Ciaran Burke is calling his project oneTree365 and since December 4th, 2012, he has been photographing the same tree every day.
Ciaran explains: “Each day I upload one photograph of the tree, a native willow, to my website onetree365.com. The tree is located on a quiet country lane in Co. Mayo.”
Book and exhibition
The project is nearing the conclusion of the photographing phase, and from February 27th to 9th March oneTree365 will be the subject of an exhibition at the Charlestown Arts Centre.
Ciaran, who is a horticultural tutor and lecturer and runs The Garden School, offering Royal Horticultural Society Qualifications, is also working on a photo book of the project.
“It will be a 60-page colour photo book featuring each of the 365 photographs of the tree. I am publishing this book myself as I see it as a niche product and not of interest to traditional publishers. Printing costs for such a book are expensive, therefore I am hoping to generate funding through crowdfunding for this project.”

People can help fund the project through the Irish-based site fundit.ie. There are a number of rewards available including signed copies of the book, framed photos and personal tours of the National Botanic Gardens in Dublin.
