Maureen Burke from Haverhill in Massachusetts has been in touch to seek help in finding her long lost cousins in Newport, County Mayo. Maureen would like to get in touch with her Moran cousins for an upcoming Family Reunion on June 1st 2013 in New Hampshire, USA.
Maureen explains: “Over the past 27 years, although I’ve visited Newport, Co. Mayo, I’ve yet to locate relatives. My great -great grandparents, John and Mary (McLaughlin) Moran emigrated to Lancashire, England.
“Eventually the majority of their children migrated to Massachusetts, USA in the early 1900’s. There must be some distant cousins who still reside in the Newport area?
“I’m sure John and Mary must have had siblings ? As far as records show, they were in England by 1859.
“What I do know is that John was born in 1804 in Co. Mayo, and married Mary McLaughlin (born 1823) in 1840.
“They had 7 children and resided in Newport. I believe 6 of those children were born before the move to England: Mary, Patrick, Hugh, Catherine John, James and Peter. While in Lancashire they lived in Staining, and Poulton-le-Fylde.
“Our first reunion of Moran cousins was 1976, followed by the 2nd in 1991.
“Since that time, I’ve located cousins in AU, CA, and England besides the States. I’ve met with staff from the Newport catholic church, North Mayo Heritage Center and government offices in the area, besides research online including Ancestry.com.
“At this time, I believe, I may have exhausted all resources. Do hope you someone can help me out.”
