St. Mary’s Secondary School Ballina proudly presents their 31st annual musical production,“The Phantom of the Paris Opera”, from Tuesday 22nd to Friday 25th October at 8 pm in the school assembly hall.
The musical based on Gaston Leroux’s original 1909 novel Le Fantôme de l’Opéra and various film and stage adaptations since, has been lovingly and lyrically adapted by the talented director, Peter McLoughlin.
Playing the leading roles are transition year girls, Christine Dyee (Aoife Kilcullen), Signora Maria Caruso, (Katie O Malley), Signor Benito (Penny West), Monsieur’s Firmin and Andre (Grainne Downes and Roisín Burke), Viscount Raoul de Anjou (Lily Finlay), Count Raoul De Anjou, (Lily Finlay), Viscount Marc de Anjou (Tara Gilmartin), Marguerite ( Lisa Dolan).
Henri Laurent “The Phantom” is played with skill and pathos by scriptwriter and director, Peter McLoughlin.
Musical director is Regina Deacy, assisted by Ursula Holian. The choreographer is Annette Leonard, and producer, Angela Donoghue.
The Paris Opera House is gloriously reproduced by talented Art teacher, Renée Cronin, and her students. The fabulous fashions of the 19th century comes alive on stage due to the craft and needlework of Home Economics teachers, Marie Clarke, Tricia Clarke and Regina Judge.
Of course, the stars of the show are the wonderful Transition Year girls, accompanied in the choir stalls by our Second Year Choir and in the pit by the 5th Year music students.
The support and assistance of the Parents Council ensures that the Transition Year Troubadours of 2013 will have a well organised and well-ushered auditorium in which to thrill all you patrons.
This year St Mary’s will donate the proceeds from the opening night show to St Muredach’s Cathedral Restoration Fund.
